Saab Receives Order From Latvia For RBS 70 Missiles

Defence and security company Saab has received an order for RBS 70 missiles from the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia. Deliveries will take place during the period 2015-2016.

Latvia has been an RBS 70 system customer since 2004. This order for missiles is part of Latvia’s long-term plan to further increase its air defence capabilities. The contract includes the delivery of missiles, training and associated equipment plus an option for additional orders.

“We are very pleased that Latvia has decided to place further orders for RBS 70 missiles. It demonstrates Latvia’s trust in the RBS 70 system, as well as the high quality of our manufacturing and support capabilities. The RBS 70 is a modern system with a long lifespan. We can see that an increasing number of customers are taking advantage of its flexible design, which allows for the system to be continuously upgraded and adapted to evolving needs,” says Anna Fröjd, head of market area Nordic and Baltic, Saab.

“Anti-missile defense is one of our main and strategic priority in order to strengthen Latvia`s defense and security. The agreement between Saab and the Ministry of Defence of Republic of Latvia will demonstrate excellent cooperation between Sweden and Latvia which builds trust and confidence with regard to the security in the region. Sweden is a very good partner in the anti-missile defence field and our cooperation has a long history. It is very symbolic, because it started in 2004 when Latvia joined NATO and based on that cooperation we have trained many soldiers Latvia`s Armed Forces”, says Raimonds Bergmanis, Latvian Minister of Defence.

The Saab portfolio of short-range ground-based air defence missile systems includes the RBS 70 and the further enhanced RBS 70 NG. The RBS 70 system has an impressive track-record on the market with more than 1,600 launchers and over 17,000 missiles delivered to nineteen countries.
