On Wednesday 9 November Saab opened a new representative office in Manila, capital of the Philippines. This office will act as the headquarters of Saab’s country unit serving the Philippines, which will be formally established in January 2017. Leading this country unit is Mr Carl-Erik Leek who was appointed as Head of Saab Philippines in November 2016.

Saab’s Manila office opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Philippines government, armed forces and local industry along with senior figures in the Swedish community in the Philippines. Guest of honour was the new Ambassador of Sweden to the Philippines, Mr Harald Fries. Sweden has re-established a full embasssy in Manila following a gap of eight years and celebrated its own opening ceremony on Tuesday 8 November.

“Saab already does about 25 per cent of our annual business in Asia Pacific. That number has grown steadily over the years, will continue to grow and I expect that the Philippines will be part of this story. We have steadily increased our presence in the region by opening different country offices to be close to the customer. That is a key part of how we do business all over the world. Our new office in Manila is Saab’s tenth in Asia Pacific, and I don’t think it will be the last,” said Dan Enstedt, President and CEO of Saab Asia Pacific Co. Ltd.

Key future business opportunities for Saab in the Philippines include the Gripen fighter, naval combat systems, maritime and air traffic management systems, and training systems and solutions.

“My goal for this new office in Manila is to be the hub for a long-term relationship as a supplier of products and services to the Philippines Armed Forces and to the nation,” said Carl-Erik Leek, head of Saab Philippines.
