Saab Presents Scholarship For Indonesian Engineers

Defence and security company Saab has awarded a Master’s Scholarship for Aeronautics to an Indonesian student as a part of Saab’s ongoing work to build an engineering talent base in Indonesia.

At the end of 2015 Saab and Sweden’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology, hosted the KTH Master's Challenge Aeronautics Competition for Indonesian students. The winner has now been awarded a full Master’s scholarship to pursue the Aerospace Engineering programme at KTH in Stockholm.

In a ceremony on 4 April 2016, Harianas Ibnusina Dewang from Bandung Institute of Technology received the prize at the Swedish Ambassador’s residence in Jakarta. His winning submission was a study of flight automation techniques.

The scholarship competition was open to Indonesian citizens currently enrolled at an Indonesian university, or recent graduates holding a technical bachelor's degree from an Indonesian university. The competition attracted many participants from all over the country. The judging panel was impressed by the consistently high standard of analytical reasoning it encountered, along with the comprehensive engineering knowledge on display.

Saab will provide the student with living allowances for the entire duration of the course while KTH will cover tuition expenses. This is a unique full scholarship opportunity from Saab and KTH. The winner will enroll at KTH in the second semester of 2016.

“Saab has a long record of supporting innovative work methods and technology transfer through university collaborations. This is another example of that teamwork and it shows what an important part Indonesia plays in increasing the interaction between education and technology,” said Dan Enstedt, President and CEO, Saab Asia Pacific.

“The scholarship competition attracted great interest, and we are impressed and pleased that so many took part in it. Saab hopes that this joint effort will help build more bridges between Sweden and Indonesia’s industries, organisations and educational institutions,” said Peter Carlqvist, head of Saab Indonesia.
