Unmanned Warrior is a multinational event, held in Scotland and Wales 10-21 October, which will see around 40 companies and organisations, invited by the United Kingdom´s Royal Navy, showing off their latest technological developments within maritime autonomous systems in a tactically representative environment. As one of the invited defence companies and the only demonstrator of training targets on site within anti-submarine warfare solutions, Saab plays an important role during the exercise.

“Saab has been invited to showcase its innovative technology to a truly international audience. Representatives from navies of UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and Sweden, among others, will have the chance to experience our new underwater technology within the area of anti-submarine warfare and mine countermeasures”, says Anne-Marie Vösu, head of Saab’s business unit Underwater Systems.

Saab will demonstrate its AUV62-AT, an acoustic target that replicates the active and passive signature of a submarine, and its newly launched anti-IED (Improvised Explosive Device) underwater robot, Sea Wasp, which will operate as part of the Royal Navy´s Fleet Diving Squadron.

”The AUV62-AT is the worlds most advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) training system. It ensures the entire ASW force can receive high quality training from start to finish. The Sea Wasp will be allocated to the Royal Navy´s Diving teams operating in Loch Goil where it will be used for search missions of harbours and counter underwater IED and mine threats”, says Anne-Marie Vösu.

In line with the United Kingdom´s Strategic Defence and Security Review direction on innovation and defence exports, the Royal Navy has invited industry, academia and certain Defence partners, including the US Navy, to safely experiment and demonstrate the potential offered by maritime autonomous systems within the Joint Warrior operational environment. Unmanned Warrior will involve Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) conducting a number of challenging scenarios across different themes.
