Saab Surface Safety System now Operational at Gimhae International Airport

Saab has announced that the Seoul Regional Office of Aviation has commissioned for operational use the Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS), featuring the SR-3 Surface Movement Radar (SMR) at Gimhae International Airport in South Korea.

The A-SMGCS from Saab provides air traffic controllers at South Korea’s Gimhae International Airport in Busan with a display of all aircraft and vehicles on the airport’s runways and taxiways for improved safety and efficiency.

The Saab SR-3 SMR provides a high quality, non-cooperative surveillance picture, and performs particularly well in poor weather conditions based on its unmatched frequency diversity.

“The Saab SR-3 is the ideal radar for airports such as Gimhae with extreme weather conditions. With the SR-3 feeding the Saab A-SMGCS, the controllers will have significantly improved situational awareness,” says Mike Gerry, head of business unit Air Traffic Management within Saab business area Industrial Products and Services.

Saab’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) expertise spans airport operations, surveillance sensors, Air Traffic Control (ATC), automation, collaborative decision-making, and digital towers. Saab solutions are trusted by air navigation service providers, airports and airlines at over 100 locations in more than 45 countries.
