Saab launches next generation 9LV naval combat system
Saab is introducing the next generation of its naval 9LV Combat System, Combat Management System and Fire Control System with Ceros, in a design built for the realities of modern naval warfare in multiple domains.
By integrating sensors, weapons and command-and-control functions into a single system, 9LV provides crews with a comprehensive operational picture and supports rapid decision-making.
As threats multiply, proliferate, become more complex and increasingly unpredictable, naval commanders need the ability to make confident decisions under increasing pressure. The next generation 9LV is designed to provide situational awareness and maintain control of the battlespace, protect their ship and contribute more effectively to allied joint operations.
Built on a data-centric architecture with a standardised information model and zero-trust cyber security, 9LV enables accurate information to move securely and rapidly across the force. At the same time, its architecture separates mission-critical combat functions from flexible, cloud-native applications. This means users can confidently adopt new capabilities and mission applications as threats evolve, without compromising the integrity of the ship's core fighting systems.
The result is a robust combat system that can rapidly adapt to changing operational requirements while remaining resilient under attack. New capabilities can be introduced faster, allowing naval forces to stay ahead of emerging threats throughout the platform's service life.
"By allowing naval forces to adapt to evolving threats while protecting the integrity of core combat functions, 9LV stays adaptable and therefore relevant against emerging threats over the ship’s operational life," says Michael Skarped, head of Saab's business unit Naval Combat Systems.
9LV is also designed for the increasingly connected nature of modern naval operations. Aligned with NATO objectives for interoperability and data exchange, it enables seamless sharing of tactical information across naval, air, land, and joint forces. This allows commanders to contribute to a common operational picture, coordinate effects across domains and respond more effectively as part of a coalition force.
The system is scalable across platforms, from major multi-mission combatants to smaller vessels, and supports future hybrid fleet concepts involving both crewed and uncrewed systems. This enables naval forces to integrate new platforms and sensors as they emerge, extending the reach and effectiveness of the force without being constrained by legacy architectures.
The result is a next generation 9LV combat system that not only controls the fight, but helps commanders anticipate it, adapt to it and prevail within it, delivering greater survivability for the ship, stronger protection for allied forces and a decisive advantage in the modern maritime battlespace.
