Watch MSC Gaia enter the Berendrecht Lock in Antwerpen

1 min read

Vessels are becoming increasingly larger in size and even in clear weather the pilot cannot see what is in front of the bow. This involves greater risks in confined spaces such as ports and shipping lanes.

In this video you can watch when the container ship MSC Gaia with the overall length of 366 meters and breadth of 45 meters entering the Berendrecht lock in Antwerpen, Belgium.

The pilot, who have to enter the narrow lock with less than a metre space to spare on either side, obtain assistance from the navigation system ADX XR and Qastor software.

The ADX XR navigation system has ultrahigh precision to within a centimetre and is integrated with the navigation software Qastor which allows the pilot to know what the vessel is doing before they can visually observe it themselves.
