3 min read

Saab has been awarded the contract for the supply of a Port Management Information System spanning multiple ports managed by Tasmanian Ports Corporation Pty Ltd (TasPorts).

asPorts recognized the need to upgrade their existing systems with a contemporary port operations and management system and commenced a search for potential suppliers in 2017.

“The choice of TasPorts for Saab further solidifies our position in the Australian market” says Managing Director of Saab's office in Vancouver, Pavel Skournik. “Successfully acquiring the TasPorts contract has again proven that Saab has what it takes to deliver sophisticated systems of this nature. Our solution will allow TasPorts to optimally serve their customers and make best use of their resources”.

TasPorts plays an integral role in the Tasmanian economy. Ninety-nine per cent of Tasmania’s freight imports and exports move through TasPorts’ ports each year. Highlighting the importance of the maritime sector in Tasmania, TasPorts has committed, through their Port Master Plan, to an investment of more than $200 million AUD towards port infrastructure over a period of fifteen years.

"TasPorts is looking forward to the installation of the Saab PORTCONTROL application. This software, configured to reflect the way we work, will assist TasPorts to integrate all ports in the state and allow us to continue to realize one of our core values - to provide customers with a responsive and quality service" says TasPorts Chief Financial Officer, Geoff Duggan.

The system is expected to go into operation in Q3 of 2020. The delivery includes a ten-year maintenance and support contract.
