Extended agreement for the manufacturing of Airbus 320 ailerons
Saab and Airbus have in November agreed on a new multi-year contract for continued production of ailerons for the Airbus A320 Family. The negotiations began last year and were completed in the autumn. For BU Aerospace Systems, the new agreement is an important milestone from several perspectives.
The main contract was signed almost 20 years ago and Saab has delivered 20,000 ailerons since then. Our own design is fully optimized for high-volume production and therefore very suitable from a lean perspective. This is largely thanks to our optimized production solution, where the design of a fully integrated composite box interacts with the requirements of the production system.
Sebastian Jakolini, who is Head of Programs, summarizes the following;
- The completion of the negotiation marks an important milestone for our commercial program portfolio.
- Being a supplier to such a high-volume program obviously involves some challenges where good interaction between different functions and subcontractors is crucial.
Andreas Westergren, Head of Product Unit, says;
-The fact that we have now have finalized the negotiations is strategically important for the portfolio. Just how we have built our production system for the A320, which is a high-volume program, it is an important basis for being able to visualize what is possible to achieve.
