GlobalEye: Built by experts for every mission
In modern conflict, situations develop rapidly and receiving accurate, timely surveillance is the key to forces achieving mission success. Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) systems are radar solutions that detect and identify air, land and sea vehicles, together with missiles and other objects. AEW&C systems are also employed as battle management command and control centres, receiving and transmitting real-time information to achieve total situational awareness.
GlobalEye is a highly advanced, long-range, multi-domain AEW&C solution tailored to the needs of each customer. GlobalEye can operate as a standalone solution, or within a mixed fleet to diversify existing sensors, increase operational flexibility and enable innovative tactics. Whatever the mission, GlobalEye combines intelligent design with expert production to give forces the aerial advantage.
Saab’s production pedigree
Saab has long been at the forefront of aerospace and defence production, with a rich history that predates the Second World War. Throughout this time, production processes have been streamlined and optimised to ensure every solution is delivered on time and to the highest quality.
Much of Saab’s design and engineering work is conducted in-house and benefits from long-term, reliable partnerships with trusted sub-contractors. With expertise at all levels of the production process, including sales, procurement, programme management and engineering, customers are in safe and competent hands.
Saab’s culture is one of hard work, collaboration and flexibility, with motivated teams and in-house testing which ensure production projects run smoothly and efficiently. Saab’s project management teams tailor production schedules which adhere to ambitious yet realistic timelines for design, manufacturing, training and delivery.
Collaboration is key
GlobalEye is adapted to the specific needs of every customer, with individual requirements considered during the design and project planning phases. Saab’s engineers and technicians can work openly with each customer’s team to provide full transparency at all stages of the manufacturing process. This collaborative approach helps reduce any potential future issues with GlobalEye, as service teams on both sides are familiar with the inner workings of the product, reducing any downtime.
Furthermore, collaboration between Saab and its customers ensures all agreed features are implemented in accordance with the customer’s confidentiality requirements. The customer is able to check and sign off work at all stages, removing the need to undo any work at a later stage. This helps speed up the production process, allowing GlobalEye to be completed, delivered and in the air within a very attractive timeframe.
As well as collaborating with customers, Saab’s internal teams – from sales and design, to manufacturing and training – work effectively together to ensure a seamless production process. Furthermore, they work closely with trusted third-party suppliers to get what’s needed, when it’s needed, avoiding additional time being added to project timelines.
The optimal platform
Saab’s engineers and technical experts searched comprehensively for the best platform on which to build GlobalEye. Saab’s decades of engineering know-how led them to the Bombardier Global 6000 and 6500 business jet aircraft platforms. These jets are optimally sized with class-leading flight range and endurance.
GlobalEye’s exceptional cabin offers high comfort for crew, including natural light windows which help minimise crew fatigue on longer missions. GlobalEye is characterised by a small logistic footprint and low life cycle cost, making it a very cost-effective and capable choice.
Any modifications requested by customers are designed and manufactured in-house by Saab with extensive knowledge of the Bombardier Global 6000/6500 platforms and their capabilities.
Planning ahead
Saab’s rich production history brings with it highly efficient ways of working, including its own business framework – the Lead System Integrator (LSI) model. The LSI model manages the entire life cycle of complex projects and ensures all subsystems work together seamlessly.
Saab can gain quick approvals from the relevant authorization bodies, understands the stringent testing that must be done, and regularly performs rigorous in-house tests. This expertise ensures limited downtime and improved time to market.
Working closely with the customer and all relevant stakeholders ensures the entire life cycle of GlobalEye can be carefully planned. This long-term planning makes GlobalEye’s life cycle cost-effective and operationally efficient. Servicing and software updates are designed to be done quickly, minimising downtime, and will be scheduled well in advance, whilst always maintaining transparency at all levels. If there are any issues, Saab engineers are on hand to assist in the triage and subsequent repair or replacement of GlobalEye parts.
GlobalEye is intelligently designed, meticulously planned and expertly crafted. Built from the ground up with the customer’s needs and requirements in mind, Saab’s close-knit team ensures GlobalEye performs seamlessly, whatever the mission.
