Can peace and security be taken for granted?

2 min read

We don’t think so

Peace is often invisible. It is the calm in our streets, the normal rhythm of daily life, the freedom to look ahead with confidence. Yet history has shown that peace is never automatic. It must be protected through responsibility, cooperation and preparedness.

At Saab, we carry that lesson with us. When our company was founded in 1937, Europe was on the brink of conflict. Sweden needed to safeguard its borders and its people. Twelve years later, NATO was born out of the same understanding: that security requires more than words. It requires commitment, solidarity, and the willingness to stand together.

A bond forged in shared purpose

From the beginning, Saab and NATO have been aligned in values. Both recognise that security cannot be left to chance but must be actively defended. Sweden’s cooperation with NATO, formalised through the Partnership for Peace in 1994, has steadily deepened over the years and is built on a strong national consensus that peace is best secured together.

Technology that protects lives

This shared purpose comes to life in the systems and solutions Saab delivers to NATO nations. They are not abstract technologies but proven capabilities that contribute directly to protecting people and societies.

When NATO allies secure their skies, Saab’s Erieye airborne early warning and control system provides the information needed to ensure safety and readiness. On the ground, soldiers place their trust in the NLAW anti-tank system, knowing its precision and reliability can make the difference in demanding conditions. Across Europe, the Giraffe radar family stands guard, supporting NATO exercises and strengthening situational awareness where it is most needed.

A shared responsibility for tomorrow

The challenges facing NATO and its member nations are complex and constantly evolving. Saab continues to innovate and to strengthen its contribution, ensuring that our technologies integrate seamlessly into NATO operations and exercises. In doing so, we help protect societies and reinforce the collective security on which peace depends.

Peace and security cannot be taken for granted. They exist when nations, industries and people take responsibility together.

Because peace and security cannot be taken for granted.
