Climate
Saab had, as the first major company in the defence sector, its Near-term targets approved by Science Based Target initiative in December 2022. Since then, Saab had its Net Zero targets approved to be in alignment with the Paris Agreement. Saab’s Climate Transition Plan describes a detailed plan of how to reach the targets.
Saab reached the A-list as one of the highest rating companies for leadership in corporate transparency and performance on climate change by the global environmental non-profit organization CDP in 2025. Saab yearly discloses to CDP: mitigation actions, climate risks and emissions (according to the Green House Gas protocol). Saab has also been recognized by Financial Times among the European Climate Leader in 2026.
Saab’s science-based targets
Near term:
- 42 % reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030 (base year 2020)
- -25 % reduction in Scope 3 emissions for applicable categories by 2030 (base year 2020) *
- Engaging 50% of its suppliers (by spend) to have a SBT by 2027
Long term:
- -90 % reduction of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2050 (base year 2020)
The targets cover the Saab’s entire value chain. Scope 1 and 2 emissions include sources such as flight testing, heating, cooling, steam and electricity usage. *Scope 3 emissions include business travel, transportation of goods and use of sold products. While supplier engagement covers purchased goods & services and capital goods categories.
Saab's Climate Fund & environmental footprint
Saab's Climate Fund promotes the development of innovations, tipping the scales for projects which otherwise may not be executed. The funds are allocated to environmentally conscious innovations ranging from improvements of existing products to the development of completely new products and services geared towards climate impact reductions.
Saab understands that to remain competitive, relevant to customers and reach Scope 3 targets, Saab needs to lessen direct environmental footprint and enable customers reduce theirs. Saab designs products that stand the test of time. That means products that are cutting edge, upgradable, repairable and are robust.

Saab has implemented a climate strategy to minimise Saab’s climate impact and capitalise of opportunities such as enhanced efficiency and reduced costs, while mitigating climate risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
