The role
As part of our Naval Combat Systems group, the Software Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in the development and maintenance of software across the full software development lifecycle.
The role is responsible for the planning, execution and delivery of the specification, design, implementation, integration, testing and deployment of software, ensuring compliance with engineering processes, system requirements and software development plans. The Software Engineering Lead will manage, guide and mentor the team of engineers, provide technical guidance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Lead and manage engineering teams, with a focus on fostering talent development, team cohesion, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Engage and inspire teams to achieve high performance in alignment with organizational goals.
- Develop and implement plans that align engineering activities with business objectives.
- Navigate complex technical challenges while ensuring that solutions are innovative and aligned with project goals
- Convey complex technical information to diverse audiences and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9 day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's degree) in a relevant discipline (Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
- Minimum of 6-10 years’ experience in the field of Software Engineering (i.e. Requirements Specification, Software Design, Implementation, Verification and Validation, Integration, Deployment and Support). Experience in complex software systems is desirable.
- Proven ability to mentor software engineering teams. Competent with foundational project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to foster innovation and drive technical excellence within the team.
- Skilled in using software engineering tools and development environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure when required but able to balance performance and wellbeing
- Demonstrate self-awareness and commitment to personal development, leading by example.
- Utilise a collaborative, accountable, and innovative approach to deliver results
As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
