Saab is looking for a visionary AI & Data Engineering Manager to join our newly established organization. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will translate deep technical expertise into mission-critical solutions that safeguard people and society.
You will bridge the gap between cutting-edge innovation and operational reality, collaborate across Saab’s core Business Areas to ensure our AI and data platforms power the next generation of defense technology. This includes advanced aerial platforms like the Gripen fighter system, integrating intelligent capabilities into ground combat systems, enhancing sensor performance and electronic warfare, and the future of advanced submarines and surface vessels.

Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing, cross-functional team of AI and data professionals. Foster a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
- Platform Excellence: Own the roadmap for scalable, secure, and user-centric AI & Data platforms. Ensure reliability and performance while balancing technical rigor with agile execution.
- Organizational Catalyst: Act as a key driver of AI adoption across the enterprise, aligning architecture and solutions with the mission-critical needs of our various business units.
- Responsible AI: Champion ethical AI practices, ensuring fairness, transparency, and explainability are baked into the core of our technical foundations.
- Governance & Security: Maintain strict adherence to security protocols, data governance, and compliance, critical for our role in national defense.
Your Profile
Required Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience within AI, data platforms, data science, or enterprise architecture, with a demonstrated ability to inspire and develop teams.
- Strong technical foundation across the AI & data lifecycle, including platforms, infrastructure, experimentation, and deployment.
- Extensive experience working closely with business stakeholders to translate complex needs into scalable, high-impact technical solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, combined with a proactive, collaborative, and positive leadership style.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering).
- Fluency in both Swedish and English.
Preferred Experience
- Experience building or scaling highly scalable AI/ML platforms, data mesh architectures, or cloud-based AI environments.
- Familiarity with MLOps, model lifecycle management, advanced data governance frameworks, and responsible AI practices.
- Solid understanding of hybrid cloud environments, platform security, and compliance best practices.
- Experience with product thinking and a strong focus on end-user and developer experience.
This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
