Associate Project Manager - Defence Industry

The opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.

The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.

The role

As part of our Engineering and Sustainment Services group, the DDG Associate Project Manager will support the major upgrade to the Hobart Class Destroyer capability for the Royal Australian Navy surface combatant fleet. They will support a high performing team of engineers and project managers  to achieve challenging and complex outcomes, and coordinate activities across a large number of diverse stakeholders . They will be immersed in the full project lifecycle and will have opportunities to demonstrate and grow their project management skills and experience in a multi-party collaborative environment, and

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Produce and present project reports summarising progress, schedule, EVM, R&O data analysed.
  • Support the development of traditional and bespoke performance measurement and reporting metrics.
  • Assist the monthly drumbeat cycle of project schedule progress, R&O reviews and EAC updates.
  • Identify and characterise opportunities to optimise the team performance for schedule adherence and efficiency of resource utilisation.
  • Lead by example and influence overall outcome focused behaviour and communication that maintains the program culture of excellence.
  • Prepare, monitor and revise plans, estimates, cost accounts and schedules for the scope of work to meet the objectives set by the Contract/Project Directive.
  • Develop the approach for the assigned scope to achieve outcomes as per Contract/Project Directive, including identification of opportunity in order to maximise outcomes.
  • Lead and present status at Steering Committee Meetings, Gate Reviews, Customer Reviews and Progress Meetings.
     

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in science, engineering or in a business discipline.
  • Working in a complex project or program environment.
  • Understanding of Cost Schedule System Reporting (CSSR) or related Earned Value Management (EVM) system.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead staff within a team environment and to foster cooperation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed ability to provide leadership and work with others in a team environment.
