Associate Systems Engineer
Saab in East Syracuse, NY is currently searching for Associate Systems Engineers to assist in system analysis, modeling and simulation, systems integration and test in the deployment of next-generation solutions for Digital Towers (r-TWR) and Surface Surveillance Systems. These systems consists of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hardware, software and firmware components and incorporate a wide range of integrated technologies: Human Machine Interface, Multilateration, Radar, ADS-B, GPS, video tracking and fusion, and integrating Hi-Definition cameras at Air Traffic Control towers.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work on a cutting edge system that directly impacts the majority of flight operations in the U.S. As an Associate System Engineer on the team, you will have the chance to work hands-on with a diverse group of internal and external team members, spanning numerous disciplines and all experience levels.
Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities:
Work independently on routine tasks and with moderate guidance on new or complex tasks
Estimate required effort for own tasks
Perform simple analysis of basic requirements
Perform modeling, simulation and trade studies using appropriate tools and technology
Present results/content to internal and external customers
Identify appropriate integration and test methods
Identify and propose methods to mitigate technical risk
Contribute to professional, high-quality documentation
Assist in the design and documentation of the system configuration in accordance with the Saab and customer design standards
Develop integration plans
Assist with the assembly, integration, and Factory Acceptance Test events
Assist with the deployment and optimization of the system, resolving technical issues as appropriate
Assist with the Site Acceptance Test
Develop an understanding of applicable company products and technologies, and intellectual property protection and security procedures
Develop planning and organizational skills for individual tasks
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related discipline is required.
Prior Co-Op/Internship experience is preferred.
An understanding of air traffic control, airline ramp control or airport surveillance is a plus.
Ability to specify interfaces including physical characteristics, electrical characteristics and communication protocols.
Ability to perform basic data analysis and trade studies.
Experience with Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point are required.
Familiarity with integration and test techniques.
Experience with MATLAB, and 2D/3D CAD (Autodesk Fusion, Solidworks, etc.) is desirable.
The ability and willingness to support all phases of programs from concept development through final acceptance is required. This will often include on-site support for surveys, installation, configuration, integration, optimization and acceptance testing.
