Saab Australia is growing and we are expanding our systems engineering workforce across key defence programs. We are seeking motivated and developing Associate Systems Engineers to join our teams in Melbourne or Adelaide, supporting the delivery, integration, and sustainment of complex software-intensive systems that help protect Australia’s national interests.

Experience
- Up to 2 years’ experience in Systems Engineering-related activities
Education & Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience (defence experience desirable)
- Ability to hold and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (NV1)
- Ability to access ITAR-restricted information
Knowledge and Technical Skills
- Fundamental understanding of systems engineering principles
- Basic familiarity with defence or military systems (desirable)
- Exposure to ASDEFCON environments (desirable)
- Familiarity with tools such as DOORS or Cameo Systems Modeler
- Basic analytical and problem-solving ability
Communication & Collaboration
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal capability
- Ability to clearly convey technical information verbally and in writing
Adaptability & Professionalism
- Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn and adopt new methodologies and technologies

The work ahead
As an Associate Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the development, integration, testing and maintenance of system solutions, working under the guidance of senior and experienced engineers.
You will assist in system design activities, documentation, troubleshooting, validation and compliance with engineering and safety standards, while staying current with emerging technologies and systems engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Engineering Activities
- Assist in gathering and analysing system requirements from stakeholders
- Support the development of requirements documentation and traceability
- Contribute to system architecture and design specifications
- Participate in design reviews to ensure requirements are met
- Support integration of hardware and software components
- Work with experienced engineers to implement system configurations
- Support development and execution of system test plans
- Participate in functional, integration and system-level testing
- Assist in integrating subsystems into complete solutions
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of system integration issues
- Help validate systems against operational and performance criteria
- Contribute to preparation of validation documentation and reports
Development, Deployment & Support
- Support management of change within assigned engineering baselines
- Participate in mandatory design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and working groups
- Assist to define system scope, resolve risks, and align expectations
- Provide technical support during installation, configuration and maintenance
- Assist in development of training materials and user documentation
