The role

As part of our Systems Delivery Group, the Automation Architect role contributes to the development of the Saab 9LV Combat Management System, a naval command and control system that integrates sensors, weapons, and data to provide situational awareness and decision support for maritime operations. This role is responsible for shaping the technical direction of the SDG development environment and associated capabilities that supports the SDG organisation enhance and deliver the Saab 9LV Combat Management Systems.

The Automation Architect will provide technical leadership, guidance and product roadmaps to DevSecOps teams and maximise global alignment and compliance to broader corporate function and policy.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Lead the technical direction of DevSecOps teams and provide architectural and SME guidance on specification, design, implementation, integration, testing and deployment activities.
  • Act as the Product Owner for the Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CDP) and other systems under the responsibility of the DevSecOps teams.
  • Lead monitoring and planning activities to ensure sufficient capacity, performance and availability. 
  • Formulate and communicate forward technology roadmaps to meet identified needs and opportunities.
  • Lead activities in analysing, designing, and implementing automation strategies, workflow improvements and tool selection.
  • Maintain relationships and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (for example, other Saab Australia 9LV engineering teams, Saab Australia support functions and Saab Global 9LV engineering teams) to:
  • Identify and manage internal and external facing needs and infrastructure evolution.
  • Ensure global product alignment.
  • Perform assurance activities for security compliance and project controls associated with the development environment.
  • Mentor and coach DevSecOps teams to ensure their designs are consistent with DevSecOps architecture best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement by fostering and developing new ideas.

Flexible work arrangements such as a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your education, skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications (bachelor’s degree) in a relevant discipline (Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
  • Familiarity with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) Information Security Manual (ISM)
  • Scripting skills using languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Broad understanding of technology and technology trends.
  • Demonstrated experience of:
  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery concepts.
  • Implementing CI/CD solutions.
  • Implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions
  • Building and deploying containerised applications.
  • Application and infrastructure monitoring and incident response
  • Configuration tools such as Ansible
  • Monitoring and analysis tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack
  • Linux, open-source applications and tools management

Desirable

  • Experience with:
  • Agile principles, practices and processes.
  • Analysing and implementing ASD ISM controls.
  • Configuration rollout and management of the Atlassian Datacenter suite, including Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Fisheye and Crucible.


Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably to NV1 level.
