Autonomous Systems Lead

Solna,
Sweden
Closing date: 30 July 2026

Are you driven to see your ideas become reality? Welcome to our exciting and technology-intensive world.

Your role

As Autonomous Capabilities Lead, you will hands-on drive the next generation of autonomy and coordinated multi-agent capabilities across Saab’s  emerging C6ISR portfolio. You will create the autonomy layer that allows any unmanned platform — air, land, maritime or joint — to be coordinated, tasked and integrated into our future C6ISR solution.

Your mission spans concept development, architecture, development, integration and stakeholder leadership, ensuring that autonomy becomes a force multiplier for multi-domain warfighters. You will shape how future battlespace effects are delivered through orchestrated UAVs, unmanned systems and autonomous mission services operating in complex, contested environments.

This is a strategic, high-impact role at the intersection of technology innovation and military operational relevance.

What you will do

  • Lead the roadmap for autonomy, swarming and coordinated multi-agent capabilities, aligning them with evolving multi-domain operational needs and C5ISR/C6ISR mission threads.
  • Translate complex military operational concepts into solutions spanning sensor integration, mission autonomy, collaborative behaviors and real-time execution.
  • Represent the business unit and Saab in autonomy for customer engagements, technical fora, defence innovation initiatives and international standards efforts.
  • Scan emerging technologies (collaborative autonomy, distributed decision making, AI-enabled flight control, behavior modelling, resilient communications) and translate them into actionable platform-level concepts.
  • Design a platform-agnostic orchestration layer abstracting hardware as well as APIs, data models and behavior description languages enabling rapid “plug-and-play” integration of new unmanned platforms.
  • Ensure seamless integration of mission autonomy, sensor data flows, collaborative behaviors and system status into Saab’s C2, ISR and decision-support pipelines.
  • Work with edge computing, cyber-secure communication, data fusion and mission-command teams to guarantee trustworthy information flow and coherent operational outcomes.
  • Guide cross-functional teams (systems engineering, AI/ML, software, integration, test & evaluation, safety & security) through the full capability lifecycle.

Your profile

We seek a senior professional with deep autonomy expertise and strong operational understanding—someone who can connect mission realities with cutting-edge technological possibilities.

You bring:

  • Extensive experience in autonomy and multi-agent systems: swarming, distributed decision making, coordination protocols and behavior modelling.
  • Background designing platform-agnostic middleware, orchestration layers or autonomy frameworks (e.g. ROS2, DDS, microservice architectures).
  • Strong understanding of C5ISR/C6ISR, C2 systems, and edge computing environments
  • Ability to translate complex operational concepts into fieldable solutions
  • Proven experience working with senior military and industry stakeholders with clear, structured communication.
  • Track record leading prototyping or rapid capability development efforts—ideally in UAV or unmanned systems.
  • Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Systems Engineering or related technical fields; relevant military operational experience is a strong advantage.

What you’ll be part of

You will join the C5ISR and multi-domain autonomy community within Saab’s Business Unit Digital Battlespace Solutions — a team shaping how future military operations are coordinated, sensed, decided and executed.

Your work will directly contribute to resilient, high-assurance autonomous capabilities that enable operators and commanders to achieve superior insight, agility and effect across every domain of the battlespace.

Explore a wealth of possibilities. Take on challenges, create smart inventions, and grow beyond. This is a place for curious minds, brave pioneers, and everyone in between. Together, we achieve the extraordinary, each bringing our unique perspectives. Your part matters.
