Raymond has never had to leave Saab to grow
It was a passion for aviation that first drew Raymond Basudde here. He’d studied aeronautical engineering, been in touch with Saab during his studies and seen the chance to be part of developing the next generation of flight systems.
Title: Project Manager | Location: Stockholm, Solna Strand | Time at Saab: 19 years
He applied at Saab and got the job. That was 19 years ago.
Over his years at Saab, Raymond has been an engineer, team leader, line manager and now project manager for a team working on customer projects linked to Saab’s sensor products. Every role has given him new experience, new perspectives and a new understanding of how a complex system, both technical and human, actually works.
"I wasn’t prepared for how much responsibility I’d be given so quickly as a newly graduated engineer. It was a pleasant surprise to take on team leadership tasks and responsibility towards customers so early on."
What drew him in from the start was the technology. What keeps him here today is the team. The feeling of solving complex problems together, from understanding a customer need to delivering a system that actually works in the real world. And when it works, celebrating it together.
Raymond talks about the moments when he and his team meet their customers and clients. When they describe what the systems are used for, how they help keep people and societies safe in a troubled world. Those are the moments when the purpose of the work is at its clearest.
"When we meet our customers and they describe how the state of the world connects to our mission, keeping people and societies safe, it feels deeply meaningful."
Asked what he wishes he’d known before he started, his answer is unexpected. Not about the technology. Not about career paths. But about the international opportunities. Saab today is a genuinely global organisation with offices and operations in countries like the USA, Brazil, South Africa, Germany and Australia. Opportunities Raymond didn’t know about as a 23-year-old, but is keen to highlight today.
Raymond on…
A really good day at work?
When the team is moving forward with a clear, meaningful picture of what we’re going to achieve together. And when we celebrate, in good times and in more challenging ones.
What do you wish you’d known before you started?
What opportunities exist internationally. Saab is a genuinely global organisation where you can work with colleagues all over the world. I’d have liked to know that early on.
Best tip for someone thinking about applying?
Saab is a company that truly cares about its people and places trust in you from day one. Dare to take the step.
