This advertisement covers two to three Master’s thesis opportunities focused on investigating new concepts and implementing Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE) techniques to enhance productivity.
Your Role
At Structural Design, we continuously strive to improve our processes to achieve higher product quality while reducing development time. We are now seeking students to take the next step in our conceptual studies and methodology, focusing on the following areas:
1. Advanced Design and Manufacturing Concepts for Lightweight Main Landing Gear Doors
This thesis focuses on enhancing the current design of main landing gear doors to reduce weight, thereby increasing weight capacity for other components. The primary objective is to develop a lightweight design that introduces innovative manufacturing methods, improves repairability, and reduces production costs. Additionally, the thesis aims to identify and promote cutting-edge design principles and manufacturing techniques suitable for future implementation.
2. Advanced Engine Bay Door Design with Weight Reduction, Material Integration, and Future-Proof Manufacturing Techniques
This thesis focuses on improving the current engine cowl design to reduce weight and increase capacity for other components. The main goal is to develop a lightweight, heat-resistant concept that integrates innovative manufacturing methods while keeping production costs in mind. The thesis will also investigate the interaction of new materials with existing systems and aim to identify design principles and production methods suitable for future qualification and implementation.
3. Knowledge-Based Engineering Design for Model-Based Definition (MBD)
This thesis aims to investigate and implement MBD in the detailed design phase to improve workflow within structural design. Key questions include: How can certain processes be automated to achieve higher quality while eliminating repetitive tasks? How can KBE better support designers in creating MBD?
At Structural Design, we are a team of dedicated engineers focused on airframe design for products such as Gripen C/D and E/F, and T-7A. We work closely with other disciplines, including stress analysis, industrialization, and systems installation. Structural Design is part of the Fighter Aircraft department within Saab Aeronautics.
Your Profile
These Master’s thesis are suitable for one to two students with knowledge of aircraft design, product development, systems engineering/design, CAD (CATIA V5), macros (VBA), and materials science.
General programming experience is beneficial, particularly with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Python. Practical experience with Computer-Aided Design software, such as CATIA, is advantageous.
Applicants should be at the final stage of their Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, In Bachelor’s program to start a 15 ECTS Bachelor’s Thesis or Master’s program to start a 30 ECTS Master’s thesis.
This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
