The opportunity
Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.
The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.
The role
The DDG modernisation program will incorporate a range of capabilities such as Aegis Baseline 9, the Australian Interface, and the Tomahawk Weapon System onto the DDG platform. The CSI-IPT will conduct integration, verification and validations program for the introduction of these systems, which will encompass installation, set-to-work, onboard-integration and harbour, and sea acceptance test phases.
As the Combat System Engineer you will contribute to the delivery of outputs such as test and integration planning, sequencing, asset coordination and execution for designated integration and acceptance tests, including quality control over activation tests. In addition, you will be part of the team responsible for preparation and execution of System Requirements Reviews (SRR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Verification Review Boards (VRB), and Failure Review Boards (FRB) as well as providing support to materiel readiness through Material Review Boards (MRB).
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Development and delivery of relevant CDRLs such as V&V Plan, System Integration Plan, Acceptance Test Plans, VCRM, Acceptance Test Procedures, Acceptance Test Reports, Interface Control List, and Integration Test Procedures
- Advise and guide stakeholders on IV&V governance, integration and test planning, integration and test sequencing, and integration test execution
- Represent CSI-IPT and engage with stakeholders at working groups such as the Test and Evaluation Working Group
- Liaise with stakeholders to deconflict test schedules and support the development of integrated schedules
- Liaise with the FMS Case Manager to ensure all necessary GFx related to IV&V is identified and provided IAW with need dates specified in the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
- Identify and assist in managing technical risks, and ensure testing and evidences provided under test meets all statutory and regulatory requirements.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- A tertiary qualification in a specialised technical discipline
- Planning and conduct of complex maritime IV&V programs relating to the integration, test and evaluation, acceptance and certification of CS Products into naval platforms or equivalent complex military systems
- Liaising and working with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders (i.e., CoA, USN, PSD, OEMs, Shipbuilder) to achieve common goals
- The systems engineering lifecycle, methods, tools and techniques
- Working as part of a high-performing team in order to achieve technical outcomes
- Understanding in one or more of the C4ISREW or Combat System Warfare Domains (i.e., Anti-Air Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare) (desirable)
- Working in an engineering project multi-disciplinary environment
- An ability to follow through and investigate issues with a thorough, methodological approach
- Some interstate and international travel may be required.
Applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to at least the NV1 level. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
