Combat System Test and Trials Planning Lead

The opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.

The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.

The role

The Combat System Test and Trials Planning Lead is a core, high-impact member of the CSI-IPT DDG Production and Test Team. They are accountable for the strategic planning, coordination and orchestration of all internal and external resources required to execute test and trial activities. They will manage high-complexity tasks across related functional areas and directly contribute to defining strategic goals and driving program outcomes. They will assure all operations are conducted with strict adherence to the CSI-IPT DDG Test and Production Team’s Integrated Schedule, established project procedures, and defined work processes.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Oversight and strategic direction of all combat system test and trials planning within the DDG Production and Test Team
  • Direct and manage the comprehensive planning and scheduling of all combat system test and trial activities
  • Lead development, maintenance, and implementation of the integrated Production and Test schedules, plans, and documentation that align objectives, deliverables, and timelines
  • Lead co-ordination and integration of test planning artefacts and or commissioning activities
  • Lead planning, identification, and coordination of commonwealth assets, personnel and test equipment required to support P&TT, HAT and SAT test activities
  • Lead co-ordination of CS P&TT and Trials resources required to support CS and Platform HAT and SAT activities
  • Serve as the primary CS P&TT and Trials planning liaison with external stakeholders
  • Support the development of the P&TT work breakdown structure, basis of estimate, and schedule aspects of the program.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • A degree in engineering, project management or business (preferred)
  • Exposure to project management methodologies and principles of project planning, scheduling, project controls and earned value management (desirable)
  • Defence acquisition or sustainment, including successful involvement with complex system integration, risk management, and large-scale program governance
  • 5+ years leading activities in a waterfront operations, production, maintenance, or integrated systems test and trials environment
  • Influencing senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • An ability to prepare and present concise, high-impact verbal and written reports and documents
  • Strategic decision making within a high program impact
  • Leading medium to large-sized teams and potentially serving as a recognised subject matter expert within.

As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
