Combat Systems Engineer

The opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT). The CSI-IPT forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1).

The role

The DDG Combat Systems Engineer supports the delivery of systems engineering activities for Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrade packages on Royal Australian Navy platforms. You will be a part of a specialised domain team which will be responsible for the development of Engineering Change Proposals for assigned system.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Undertake allocated systems engineering tasks relating to requirements analysis, functional analysis, architecture development and system design activities.

  • Contribute to physical integration of the Combat System through maturation of the design and compartment layouts and human engineering activities.

  • Support the development of Engineering Change Proposals and design modifications for assigned system changes.

  • Support review and development of Production Products, for example drawings, cable schedules, installation instructions

  • Support the triage, assignment and resolution of production-issues, deviation, nonconformances and defect resolutions.

  • Support technical discussions / actions with the customer and partner organisations

  • Interact with the Systems Engineering Integration Team and Transverse Engineering disciplines

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

Interstate travel to other CSI-IPT and customer offices may be required.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering etc.) from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry)

  • Practitioner level experience in the fields of Systems Engineering (i.e. Requirements Management,

  • System Architecture, Systems Integration, and/or Verification and Validation)..

  • Meaningful experience with a particular domain of Maritime Combat Systems

  • Significant experience with balancing complex engineering trade space – using formal analysis methods – to achieve viable solutions in the System-of-Systems integration context.

  • Past exposure in the Integration, Test and Evaluation of CS Products into Naval Platforms or equivalent complex Military Systems having challenging constraints.

  • Eligibility to hold both an Australian NV-1 security clearance and access/handle ITAR/EAR controlled technology, data and information.

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
