The opportunity
Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.
The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.
The role
The CSI-IPT DDG Australian Interface (AI) Design Lead oversees all tasks associated with the Australian Interface and operate as part of the broader engineering team within the DDG Product Team. They work in a collaborative environment with both the customer (CoA) and with internal DDG engineering teams to provide leadership and oversight of the synthesis and maturation of the AI Integration as defined by the DDG AI Mission System interface and specification documentation.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Lead the team carrying out the Combat System design and integration tasks
- Provide input to future tasking statement preparations for AI integration activities
- Provide an advanced level of advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders on AI program activities
- Carry out and/or lead highly complex engineering assignments requiring advanced systems engineering knowledge
- Lead technical working groups and program reviews at varying levels with management and customers
- Co-ordinate, develop/update and review engineering artefacts on behalf of the AI System
- Coach and mentor staff to develop their skills and capabilities
- Provide innovative solutions to problems on a wide range of complex problems
- Attend and actively contribute to customer meetings and solutions as required
- Manage the closure of working group actions with key stakeholders
- Provide Production Installation and Shipyard Support
- Plan and support the co-ordination and execution of the Combat System Test Program for CAT 3 to CAT 5 for the AI System.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- Working with the systems engineering lifecycle with a strong Combat Management Systems (CMS) or Combat System (CS) focus, including requirements definition and analysis methods, and test and physical and functional integration
- Risk identification and mitigation practices, including seeking opportunities for continuous business improvement
- Strong verbal and writing skills, including technical writing of high-quality artefacts
- Working with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders and partnering organisations to achieve common goals
- Advanced capability in the design, integration, test and evaluation of the AI System or AusCMS products into naval platforms
- One or more of the C4ISREW or Combat System Warfare Domains (i.e. Anti-Air Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare) (desirable).
