The opportunity
Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.
The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.
The role
The DDG Electronic Warfare Lead will lead the DDG Electronic Warfare Team which is primarily responsible for assisting with the execution of prescribed engineering changes related to Electronic Warfare that will be installed on the Hobart Class DDG fleet. This will involve contributing to architecture development and design coordination activities, including the conduct of technical investigations, performing risk assessments, and identifying opportunities for programmatic efficiencies across different phases of the engineering lifecycle.
In addition the Electronic Warfare Lead will interact with other domain leads and transverse engineering disciplines, including but not limited to: Security Assurance, Safety, Electromagnetic analysis and Speciality Engineering including ILS for the purposes of achieving design assurance and holistic system compliance.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Co-ordinate the execution of systems engineering activities within your assigned subsystem domain including:
- requirements analysis
- architecture definition, and
- development of system and subsystem design and integration strategies and plans
- Establish technical support to the Ship Integration and Test function, including:
- Physical integration of subsystems
- Support ship compartment layouts
- Support Human Systems Integration activities
- Support review and development of production products
- Develop Engineering Change Proposals for assigned system changes
- Support technical discussions / actions with the CoA contracted partners and CoA organisations
- Support development of support infrastructure around assigned systems (i.e. maintenance, PHS&T, Installation methods)
- Provide guidance on:
- Security Assurance
- Safety
- Speciality Engineering including ILS for the purposes of achieving design assurance and holistic system compliance
- Establish and maintain the Systems Engineering Framework to support combat system design activities within your subsystem domain.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- Maritime electronic warfare systems
- Balancing complex engineering trade space using formal analysis methods to achieve viable solutions in the system-of-systems integration context
- The integration, test and evaluation of CS products into naval platforms or equivalent complex military systems
- Development methodologies on complex modern systems using a documented process
- The systems engineering lifecycle, methods, tools and techniques
- Engineering management, risk mitigation and business improvement methodologies
- Working in a project and engineering multi-disciplinary environment (preferably within the defence industry)
- Guiding, mentoring and training other employees
- Preparing and presenting concise verbal and written reports, briefings and updates to a wide range of stakeholders
- Advanced problem-solving skills, including ability to develop solutions to complex problems through the use of ingenuity and creativity
- Advanced ability to adapt and maintain a flexible approach to changing needs or priorities
- Leadership skills with proven ability to lead, mentor and supervise a professional team.
