The role
As a member of Saab Australia's Naval Combat Systems division, the CSIPT Underwater Warfare Engineer will have the opportunity to work on a major naval project. They will contribute to the engineering design of the Hunter Class Frigate Underwater Warfare (UWW) Systems and its integration within the wider combat system.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Capture and maintain the functional, physical and specialist engineering suite of information (safety, security, EMI/C, etc.) for the UWW Systems
- Review and approve technical and programmatic data deliverables from UWW system vendors to ensure consistency with contracted requirements and the HCF combat system and ship platform
- Provide technical input into procurement, design reviews, installation, test, trials, acceptance and engineering change activities
- Collaborate with Combat System leads and Design Authorities to ensure coherency and incorporation of customer requirements
- Deliver CS design artefacts, Technical Equipment Specifications for UWW systems and related command and control requirements, verification planning statements of work, interface specifications, and updates to systems model.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9 day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your experience, qualifications and traits will include:
- Two to five years of systems engineering
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical engineering or computer science, and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry)
- Using systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g. DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler, etc.)
- Combat system integration, installation, test, trial and acceptance of equipment in a naval environment
- UWW Systems equipment (sonars, torpedo launch systems and/or acoustic decoys) (desirable)
- Operational understanding of the usage and performance of UWW systems (desirable)
- An ability to clearly communicate technical information in writing and verbally
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
- Alignment with Saab values of trust, drive and expertise to achieve high performance
- An ability to undertake some interstate and maybe international travel.
Applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to at least NV1. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
