Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Facilities Specialist to support the daily operations and maintenance of the company’s physical facilities. Based at Saab’s Bristol, RI facility, this position provides intermittent support at Saab’s Cranston, RI, and Quincy, MA, facilities.

This role performs a broad range of duties, including furniture moves and setups, painting, cleaning, carpentry, basic electrical projects, light construction, exterior cleanup, building and equipment repairs, and preventive maintenance. The Facilities Specialist also supports facility Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and works with outside contractors and vendors on building and equipment repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the daily operations and maintenance of the company’s physical facilities.

  • Perform general handyman and maintenance duties, including furniture moves, basic electrical projects, spot painting, cleaning, light construction, and exterior cleanup.

  • Perform office furniture setups, carpentry, janitorial, and general building maintenance activities.

  • Perform building and equipment repairs and basic plumbing repairs.

  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems and support the maintenance of facility Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems.

  • Perform building preventive maintenance.

  • Operate site equipment and use hand and power tools as necessary to complete assigned work.

  • Work with outside contractors on building and equipment repairs.

  • Provide support to vendors and contractors, including security personnel, cafeteria operations, and media relations, as needed.

  • Perform interoffice mail deliveries and support wastepaper recycling and other waste management activities.

  • Support custodial activities and stock employee break areas.

  • Provide audio-visual (AV) setup support for meetings and conferences.

  • Maintain facility documentation, which may include power diagrams, network diagrams, space usage information, and related records.

  • Assist with editing and handling media materials, such as tapes.

  • Assist in hosting corporate visitors.

  • As the role evolves, develop advanced facilities maintenance competencies, including leading vendors, performing routine modifications, and taking ownership of routine MEP repairs and comprehensive preventive maintenance programs.

  • Use appropriate tools and analytical problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve facilities issues.

  • Exercise sound judgment when resolving issues and formulating recommendations.

  • Communicate project updates and technical results clearly to customers and stakeholders.

  • Maintain frequent internal and occasional external professional contacts.

  • Travel intermittently between the Bristol, RI, Cranston, RI, and Quincy, MA facilities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation Range: $23.51 - $28.17 per hour

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 3+ years of relevant experience.

  • Prior experience in a healthcare, academic, or manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to effectively use hand and power tools and other appropriate tools and equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve facilities-related issues using analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance for classified work areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant trade license or certification in HVAC/mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or a related field.

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
