The Role:

This is a contract role, part of our Training and Simulation division.

The Field Technician will provide support to the Systems Technician (Sys Tech), or Lead Field Technician, in all aspects of the communications network for large-scale DFWES exercises.  During support to any smaller DFWES exercises, the Field Tech will lead on all aspects of communications support to the exercise.

In Addition:

  • Establish and maintain communications network.

  • Provide support to the Saab EXCON (Exercise Control) team.

  • Assist the Systems Technician / Lead Technician in the planning and execution of the exercise.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Role:

  • Familiarisation and maintenance of communications plans.

  • Establish the communications network with the assistance of the field team (including erecting and aligning masts, microwave links, DAN antennae, PTZ cameras and GPS etc).

  • Assist the Sys Tech / Lead Tech in the deployment, construction and testing of communication networks on all exercise phases for larger exercises.

  • Maintain a communication network in line with the Comms Plan.

  • Establish and Maintain EXCON (including Portable Audio Gateway and OCVN link).

  • Provide on-site technical advice to the Saab EXCON.

  • Produce technical / comms data / points for the exercise PXR.

  • Support MOUT / Urban Enhancement equipment (indoor tracking) recces, modelling, set up and through-exercise.

  • Set up Observer Controller tablets and remote terminals for Observer Mentors and provide instruction on use.

  • Set up and provide technical support to AARs.

  • Support Analysts in data capture and statistical analysis as required.

Other:

  • Act as a Lead Tech if required.

  • Attend training in the UK or overseas, as required (for example: Driver training / DRT).

  • Support Saab marketing activity, as required.

  • Support other Saab projects or departments, as required.

  • Provide peak support for the Sys Techs in UK or Germany.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Valid UK Driving Licence B+E or equivalent.

  • Valid UK Passport (In date).

  • Able to travel worldwide.

  • Must able to complete a CONDO medical.

  • CompTIA A+ or equivalent.

  • CompTIA Network+ or equivalent desirable.

  • Windows applications (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

  • 1-3 Years+ of IT experience.

  • Work as part of a team or independently.

  • Able to self-task.

  • Be able to live and work in austere conditions when required.
