Saab, Inc., in Syracuse, NY, is currently seeking a Financial Controller to lead the U.S. Shared Services Finance Team. The ideal candidate will exhibit both accounting and analytical skills, cross-functional leadership, adaptability, critical thinking, mentorship of staff, and excellent communication skills.
This individual is expected to be well rounded in Transactional Finance (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll) Accounting (Financial Close and Consolidation activities: ledger entries for period activity, accruals, adjustments for revenue recognition, and reserves; ERP system maintenance; account reconciliations) and Financial Reporting. This role directs all accounting activities related to the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings.
This individual will provide leadership and support to the entire accounting team and participate in their individual career development, to include reviewing opportunities for encouraging internal growth and promotion.
Other responsibilities include:
preparation and participation in a variety of audits, both internal and external;
quarterly and annual SAAB internal control reviews; DCAA compliance audits;
benefit plan audits; New York State Sales and Use tax audits.
The position is an important advisory position in the development and support of the Company’s strategic plans, especially those related to ERP implementation and improvements.
Enhance output, implement and/or maintain one or more accounting systems.
Direct activities related to routine and non-routine Journal Entries, General Ledger maintenance, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.
Direct procedures surrounding account reconciliation and evaluate in light of internal control standards.
Review guidance provided for financial reporting requirements, rules and regulations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP and other accounting regulations as communicated by SAAB, Inc.
Prepare income and balance sheet statements each close period and develop detail reports for distribution to financial analysis personnel.
Assist with the preparation of federal, state and local reports and tax returns.
Assist with establishing company-wide processes and procedures that properly capture, track and report business transactions.
Generates various reports for internal and/or external use. A resource for interpretation of reports and records for managers/stakeholders.
Involved in reviewing, tracking and maintaining financial systems, as well as advising efforts involved with the enhancement or replacement of existing systems.
Skills and Experience:
10+ years of supervisory experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team environment
Solid written and oral communication skills and analytical problem solving
Sound business judgment, ability to discern Company priorities, and sense of urgency
High level of enthusiasm, adaptable, and intuitive while managing internal and external needs
Oracle and/or IFS experience helpful, but not required
A Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Economics, or Finance
CPA or MBA preferred
