Infrastructure Engineer

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will be working within the Civil Solutions Infrastructure Team to assemble, deploy, configure, commission and support complex ICT infrastructure components to meet project and internal requirements for current and future Civil Solutions projects, with the ultimate goal of ensuring Saab maintains excellent customer relations and delivers high quality solutions. There is also a focus on implementing and administering the DevOps tools and cloud infrastructure that support the software development and deployment. You will work closely with the Software and Systems Engineering team members in support of achieving project and internal requirements and goals. To be successful in this role, you must be highly motivated, organised, demonstrate critical thinking and have good technical writing and communication skills.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Become competent in the deployment of discrete ICT infrastructure components, utilising COTS software and hardware.

  • Be responsible for the installation and configuration discreet infrastructure components in accordance with approved reference designs and documentation by others.

  • Proactively progress on allocated work, and contribute to and coordinate with others to ensure the successful delivery of services.

  • Promote a “Customer First” culture within the team to ensure best outcomes for internal and external customers.

  • Provide technical review of documents, configurations and other artefacts in accordance with company or project requirements.

  • Create documentation to capture design decisions and implementation details, to ensure the consistent delivery of infrastructure components to others.

  • Providing assistance to remote site rollout teams.

  • Travel for deployment and commissioning of project infrastructure during project delivery phases.

  • Develop strong working relationships with and assist Saab Project, Software, Field Support and Engineering Teams as required to balance workloads across the group.

  • Maintain technical documentation relating to the Civil Solutions DevOps tools and cloud platform.

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of ongoing modernisation and R&D projects.

  • Deploy software in support of trials and demonstrations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Facilitate the integration of Civil Solutions software with third party software.

  • Estimate, plan and proactively status progress on allocated work, and contribute to and coordinate with others to ensure the successful delivery of services.

  • Provide support to others as part of a rotating on-call roster, including out of hours on-call (optional).

  • Comply with legislation and Company policies, processes and instructions, including those relating to non-discrimination, safety and duty of care and the quality management system.

  • Travel interstate and overseas will be required. Attendance and long-term work at sites such as active correctional or detention facilities will be required. A Class C Driver’s License is essential.

  • Work site attendance will be necessary for extended periods, on a rotational basis.

  • Comply with legislation and Company policies, processes and instructions, including those relating to non-discrimination, Health & safety, Bullying, Harassment, Violence and Aggression, and duty of care and the quality management system.

Skills and Experience

  • Install and configure networking infrastructure

  • Manage firewall and security products

  • Configure and manage network admission control software and hardware

  • Manage and support server based Virtualisation Solutions

  • Install, configure and support Windows Server products

  • Infrastructure Monitoring

  • Install and support Backup and Recovery Solutions

  • Workstation Configuration and Management

  • OEM Software Configuration Management and Licensing

  • Working knowledge of Solar winds and other Infrastructure management products

  • Configure and support PCoIP, Thin clients

  • SNMP trap monitoring

  • License management and distribution (all sites and internal)

  • Configuration and change management principles

  • Knowledge of Release and Deployment management practices

  • Knowledge of engineering principles in relation to verification and testing

  • Working knowledge to manage and execute automation and utility scrips

Educational Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Relevant Engineering degree

  • Construction Industry White Card (or ability to obtain one).

  • Security Installers License for Australia and New Zealand (or ability to obtain one).
