Lead Material Handler

Job Description:

Saab, Inc. in East Syracuse, NY is seeking a Lead Material Handler to join the Manufacturing/Production team.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, package, and ship all domestic and international orders, including completing necessary documentation.

  • Complete import paperwork and clear imports with Freight Forwarders.

  • Coordinate with Freight Forwarders on palletized shipments, both domestic and international.

  • Unpack and inspect goods received against purchase orders or invoices.

  • Maintain accurate records of received goods and reject unsatisfactory items.

  • Pick, kit, and distribute production materials to various departments within the company.

  • Examine, stock, and organize materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines.

  • Perform inventory checks and daily cycle counts to maintain accuracy.

  • Obtain quotes from Freight Forwarders for upcoming inbound and outbound shipments.

  • Safely lift heavy items and operate a forklift.

  • Maintain and organize the off-site warehouse.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex stockroom or inventory issues.

  • Train Material Handlers working in receiving, stockroom, and shipping areas.

  • Serve as a front-line point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding department activities.

  • Participate in and recommend continuous improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, quality, and cost.

  • Assist the department supervisor with candidate interviews and selection for open job requisitions.

  • Collaborate with the department supervisor to develop effective work assignments and training plans.

  • Provide backup coverage for the department supervisor when they are on PTO or unavailable due to other business needs.

  • May be required to work at both our Collamer and Enterprise facilities, located in East Syracuse, NY.

Compensation Range: $23.51 - $28.17 per hour

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree with 8+ years of relevant material handling experience, or a High School diploma with 10+ years of experience.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with relevant safety concerns and precautions (e.g., lifting and powered industrial truck operations).

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of MS Excel and Oracle, or a similar accounting system.

  • Forklift experience and/or certification.

  • Leadership or supervisory experience.

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
