Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Technical Training Professional to support both the FAA SMR4 program and Saab’s commercial product lines (CSS and SR-3). This position plays a key role in developing and delivering high-quality technical training for U.S. Government and international customers, ensuring a consistent understanding of Saab’s advanced surface surveillance systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with FAA training requirements, a strong technical background in radar or surveillance systems, and the ability to lead and coordinate training initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the Training Lead for the FAA SMR4 program, based on Saab’s SR-3 radar system.

  • Develop FAA-specific training materials derived from existing Saab documentation and content.

  • Conduct training sessions for FAA personnel at key sites until training responsibilities transition to the FAA Academy.

  • Collaborate closely with FAA stakeholders throughout training development and delivery phases.

  • Lead a small team (2–3 writers/trainers) in the development and execution of training programs.

  • Plan, schedule, and manage training milestones to meet program deadlines.

  • Provide technical expertise on radar fundamentals, system functionality, and operational use.

Commercial Training:

  • Crosstrain with Saab’s existing training staff to deliver training on Saab’s commercial systems, including CSS (Cooperative Surveillance System) and SR-3.

  • Deliver in-person and virtual training for international commercial customers.

  • Support training material updates, customer-specific customization, and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Travel internationally as required to support customer training engagements.

About the Systems

Cooperative Surveillance System (CSS):
Saab’s CSS provides multilateration (MLAT), wide area multilateration (WAM), and ADS-B surveillance functions to inform air traffic controllers of aircraft and vehicle positions. It supports ATC displays, A-SMGCS, and airport operations through system monitoring, configuration, and data distribution.

Surface Radar – SR-3:
The SR-3 is a high-performance radar system that monitors airport surface traffic in all weather conditions. It detects aircraft and vehicles on or near runways and taxiways, providing radar video for non-transponder targets, and enhances safety by preventing ground-traffic incidents.

Compensation Range: $99,100 - $128,800

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in engineering, instructional design, or a related field, with 8+ years of relevant experience, OR MA/MS degree in engineering, instructional design, or a related field, with 6+ years of relevant experience, OR 12+ years of direct experience in military, aerospace, or complex technology-based training systems.

  • Proven experience developing and delivering technical training for government or commercial customers.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage small teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 25%).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with FAA training standards, procedures, and certification processes.

  • Hands-on technical background in radar systems, surveillance systems, or air traffic management equipment.

  • Experience working on or supporting FAA, ASDE-X, ASSC, SMR, or similar programs.

  • Prior experience developing training in accordance with FAA or DoD requirements.
