Manager Materials & Process - Functional Materials

Your Role

We are looking for a manager for our Material & Process - Functional Materials section to join the ERIEYE and Sensors division within Business Unit Airborne Early Warning, BU AEW. The business unit is responsible for flying radar systems such as the Global Eye.

The newly formed group Material & Process - Functional Materials, which is part of the Mechanical and Structural Engineering department, have a combined product and design responsibility for a wide range of organic and in-organic materials and their respective manufacturing processes such as:

  • Surface treatments (on all materials)

  • Polymers, Silicones and rubbers

  • Coatings

  • Pre-treatments

  • Adhesives and

  • Thermal interface materials

  • EMC materials

The group consists of two teams; Team Coatings and Team Polymers. Even though the group is organised under the business unit Airborne Early Warning, it has a responsibility for all materials and processes within its scope for all Saab Surveillance products. This includes all naval and ground based radar systems.  

As manager of Material & Process - Functional Materials section, you will;

  • Lead and coach a growing organisation of about 12 persons including 2 team leaders

  • Develop and grow your teams’ future capabilities through competence development, recruitment, cooperation, sourcing and improved ways-of-working

  • Develop co-operations with other parts of Saab as well as with our external suppliers

  • Promote creativity, new ideas, business thinking and team spirit

  • Be active in the establishment of a Material Competence Centre

  • Develop roadmaps and strategies for the material categories within the group’s scope

  • Collaborate closely with technical product management

  • Be an active part of the Mechanical & Structural Engineering Leadership Team in terms of strategy, budget work and roadmaps

The position includes some travel nationally and/or internationally for both team work with colleagues and sub-suppliers as well as conferences.

You are fluent in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

We also assume you have:

  • Appropriate professional or postgraduate qualification in the material sciences e.g., M.Sc. in Material Chemistry, Engineering Physics or equivalent

  • A current position as manager or a leader ready for the next step

  • Skills to combine strategic thinking with operational actions

  • Strong business understanding and customer focus

  • Strong drive, creativity and ability to generate energy

  • A strong commitment to deliver on promises

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations regarding security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
