Job Description:

As Saab is building a new operation in West Lafayette, IN, we are seeking a Project Manager to support our world-class production system and team.  Reporting to the General Manager, your position must demonstrate ability to contribute through the application of program management fundamentals and key practices at the project and program level in the areas of risk management, cost estimation, and proposal management, and apply them to programs of moderate complexity such as the existing T-7 contract or new and emerging opportunities. 

The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, the ability to see opportunities and continuous improvement focus, with significant experience in managing small to medium complexity programs.

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Liaison with the program management offices in Sweden and the US – supporting the cost, schedule, and technical performance of the West Lafayette operation 
  • Monitors projects/programs from development through production and delivery as it relates to program performance and contractual milestones. 
  • Interfaces with internal and external customers and be effective interface with senior management with the ability to effectively present results/content in technical and program reviews.
  • Manages the communication across functional disciplines that results in successful project/program completion within defined schedule and budget constraints. 
  • Typically assigns and monitors work of technical personnel providing support to a project/program, as well as delivery of cross functional instruction. 
  • Executes identified knowledge, skills, and abilities in increasingly complex ways, and across functional levels, to meet increasingly complex project/program requirements with regards to cost, schedule, duration, headcount, resources and subcontract management.
  • Supports the resolution of minimally complex issues through the research, definition, and implementation of solutions utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Meets program needs/objectives within the complete project management cycle.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned, to support the success of the operation.

Skills and Experience:

  • BA/BS degree in an engineering, business or related discipline
  • 8+ years’ project / program experience
  • International program management experience preferred
  • Aerospace and defense experience a plus
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus
  • Proven ability to develop, manage, and maintain a master project schedule
  • Working knowledge of risk and opportunity management practices with a demonstrated ability to develop adequate risk mitigation and opportunity capture steps
  • Proficient knowledge of change management, and demonstrated understanding of contract changes
  • Proven effective development and management of program plans
  • Ability to develop and execute plans to meet technical requirements, schedule, and contract commitments
  • Ability to reconcile resources to meet project needs/objectives
  • Effective communication, demonstrating influence over team members to achieve desired results
  • Demonstrated application of financial practices to a project/program
  • Ability to identify and recommend continuous process improvement opportunities through program management practices such as CMMI and Six Sigma
  • Experience with developing and maintaining competitive proposals
