Job Description:
Rapidly growing Saab Inc. Land Systems division is seeking a dynamic Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) Manager with experience in weapon systems engineering design, production support, and functional discipline team management.
The primary function of the role is to provide engineering functional management for the team of 5 or more system and integration, verification and test (IV&T) engineers, some working remotely. The SEIT Manager will collaborate with program management teams, the division’s chief engineer, human resources and other functions to support new developments, execution of existing programs, and technology transfers, as well as assist with Land Systems’ engineering organization growth and engineering alignment with the future business development.
Travel is required, mainly domestic and some international. Currently the position is remote home office; relocation will be required to Detroit, MI area within 12 months of a start date.
Responsibilities include:
Provide functional management to SEIT team, with focus on meeting technical and programmatic objectives.
Assign appropriate personnel to projects and programs; recruit staff as necessary to meet business demands, through both direct hire and contractual agencies.
Provide leadership oversight, technical insight, guidance, mentorship, and coaching to systems engineering personnel in the performance of their tasks.
Manage performance review and career development processes and conduct cyclical compensation reviews.
Develop engineering training and professional development opportunities and execution strategies.
Ensure personnel adherence to established company processes and procedures, provide feedback and actively contribute to development and updates to processes, forms, operating procedures, and templates.
Support cost estimating activities, including proposals, IRAD, capital, and overhead budget developments.
Ensure accountability for creation of accurate technical, cost and schedule targets.
Help to assess technical risks and identify risk mitigation strategies within SEIT and adjacent disciplines.
Actively assist Land Systems leadership team in long-term engineering staffing planning and strategy development.
Contribute to Land Systems’ technology development roadmap planning from SEIT perspective.
Generate budgets and requests for SEIT function group, including overhead, capital, software, tools, subscriptions, and training.
Together with Land Systems engineering leadership, assist other divisions’ efforts with SEIT staffing needs.
Compensation Range: $161,700-$218,300
The compensation range provided is a general guideline. Skills and Experience:
Minimum Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Systems Engineering and 15 years of experience in related field, or equivalent combination of advanced degree and experience.
Hands-on, direct experience in systems engineering/integration & test execution and management, related to product development, production, and sustainment in DoD sector, including DoD weapon systems architecture, system requirements and verification, modular open system architecture (MOSA) principles, and model-based system engineering (MBSE), test development, planning and execution.
Working, hands-on experience with matrix functional organization, including recruiting, hiring, performance reviews, career development processes and other staffing efforts.
Excellent leadership and communication skills across the function, as well as with leadership teams, peers, subordinates, and business partners, domestically and internationally, in-person and remotely.
Working experience with DoD and industry engineering processes, procedures, standards, requirements, tools, and practices.
Experience and familiarity with other company functions operations, such as human resources, finance, supply chain, and other engineering functions.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DoD clearance (Secret minimum, existing clearance a plus).
International and domestic travel is required, up to 30%.
