Your role
We recognize the immense value that students bring to our company. Your academic rigor, combined with your enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology, allows you to approach problems with a unique and insightful lens. At Saab, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and specialists, gaining invaluable practical experience while making a tangible contribution to our growth and development.
Background
Rain can affect air traffic, for example, by reducing visibility for pilots, affecting friction on runways, and causing icing on aircraft, which impacts the aircraft's aerodynamics and stability. Rain is also a proxy for local wind conditions and turbulence, which are important to understand during the take-off and landing of aircraft.
Air traffic control uses weather data to plan and adjust flights, ensuring that aircraft can operate safely and efficiently under various weather conditions. Therefore, being able to measure rain using a rain mode is interesting to have in the toolkit for a multifunction radar.
Description of the master thesis
The thesis project involves studying and implement a matlab algorithm for a weather radar mode in a ground-based multifunction radar.
The thesis project is divided into three phases:
- Literature review to find suitable algorithms and waveforms for a weather radar.
- With the help of a supervisor, implement waveforms in a multifunction radar and record video data under various weather conditions.
- Implement the algorithms in Matlab and evaluate them using the recorded data.
The work will be carried out with good supervision from personnel with both technical and user perspectives. You will gain insight into product development at Saab and come into contact with various roles within our organisation.
Your profile
The project is suitable for 1-2 Master's students in Engineering, preferably with a background in electrical engineering or equivalent.
We provide the support and guidance you need to translate your theoretical knowledge into practical solutions. Join us and become a driving force behind Saab's technological advancements!
