Background
Large Language Models (LLM’s) have rapidly evolved from error-prone hallucination generators to genuinely useful tools for condensate information and providing a natural language interface to complex systems. At Saab, we develop systems that need to quickly, concisely and accurately provide critical information to operators in complex and demanding situations.
Unfortunately, these systems are typically not connected to any large computation center and are severely constrained with regards to size and power consumption. This rules out any larger LLM, which in turn means that the LLM becomes much less useful and reliable.
Description of the Thesis Project
In this master thesis project you will explorer different methods and technologies to capture the functionality of a large foundation level LLM in a minimal format that can be run locally on the integrated compute units of a deployed system. We will use existing foundation models to train much smaller models to perform specific roles and tasks in specific situations with the aim of reducing the model footprint to a few gigabytes while maintaining the reliability and depth of knowledge.
The master thesis work will be performed at Saab X Innovation Lab. At X Innovation Lab we test the boundaries of modern technology to explore ways this technology can be used to enhance Saab’s products and our ways of working.
Your profile
The project is suitable for two students with an interest and experience in AI and Large Language Models.
You are in the final stage of your studies in Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Artificial Intelligence or equivalent and are about to begin a 30 hp master’s thesis project.
