Master Thesis, 30 HP: Rethinking Project-Driven Aftermarket Business - Strategies for Scaling and Efficiency

Göteborg,
Sweden
Closing date: 31 October 2025

Are you a student eager to apply your theoretical knowledge and fresh perspectives to real-world challenges? At Saab, we believe that innovation thrives on new ideas, and your master thesis project could be the spark that ignites our next technological breakthrough.

Your role

We recognize the immense value that students bring to our company. Your academic rigor, combined with your enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology, allows you to approach problems with a unique and insightful lens. At Saab, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and specialists, gaining invaluable practical experience while making a tangible contribution to our growth and development.

Background

Traditionally, aftermarket services have been handled through individual customer projects, but with rapidly increasing demand and growing delivery volumes, this approach is reaching its limits. To meet customer commitments effectively, we need to rethink how a project-driven aftermarket business can be scaled, supported by more transparent and consolidated data, higher efficiency, and modernized ways of working. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformation journey in a highly relevant and fast-growing part of the business.

Description of the master thesis

This Master Thesis aims at exploring how a project-driven aftermarket business can be organized and operated in new ways to enable scalability and efficiency. The thesis will include analysis of current ways of working, benchmarking with other industries, and the development of recommendations on how to improve governance, data management, and operational models. The expected outcome is a structured proposal for how aftermarket services can be delivered in a more streamlined, data-driven, and scalable manner while ensuring continued customer satisfaction and reliability.

At Business Unit Airborne Early Warning (https://www.saab.com/products/air/airborne-surveillance) we deliver multi-domain AEW&C solutions. A majority of resources (roughly 400 people) work with the radar ability and located in Gothenburg/Luleå where everything from system deliveries, customer upgrades and aftermarket business is delivered and managed.

Your profile

This Master Thesis is suitable for two students with interest in business development, project management, and organizational change within complex and high-tech industries. You have an analytical mindset, are curious about how large organizations adapt to rapid change, and are motivated by the challenge of combining strategic thinking with operational improvements. An interest in aftermarket, customer commitment, and data-driven decision making is highly valuable, as is a drive to challenge existing ways of working with innovative yet pragmatic solutions.

You are at the end of your master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP.
