Saab Australia is seeking an experienced Combat Management System Trainer/Subject Matter Expert to join our Naval Combat Systems (NCS) division.
This role is ideal for a former Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Combat System Operator with strong operational experience and a background in delivering training solutions, especially in the 9LV Combat Management System (CMS) environment.
The Combat Management System Trainer/Subject Matter Expert will be responsible for contributing operational expertise to the design, development, testing, and training of Saab’s AusCMS/9LV Combat System solutions.
In this role, you will directly support our engineering teams and end-users, ensuring solutions are operationally relevant, effective, and user-focused.

Key responsibilities:
- Provide specialist naval warfare input on maritime operations, doctrine, and CMS deployment.
- Support the development and operational validation of CMS functionality and Human-Machine Interface (HMI).
- Contribute to the layout design of Command-and-Control spaces, with an emphasis on human factors and usability.
- Develop, document, and deliver training packages for CMS Operators, including training needs analysis and assessments.
- Participate in shipboard acceptance trials and testing phases.
- Author user-oriented documentation and operator manuals in line with Defence standards.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders including CASG, DST Group, and RAN.
- Uphold company and defence compliance standards, including safety, quality, and policy adherence.
About you
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive experience as a Combat System Operator in the Royal Australian Navy.
- Hands-on experience with the 9LV CMS.
- Deep knowledge of RAN operations, doctrine, and CS domains such as Air, Surface, or ASW warfare.
- Operational familiarity with sensor/weapon systems on RAN Major Fleet Units.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills across Defence and industry.
- Must hold an NV2 security clearance or higher
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience as a Combat System Operator, Supervisor, Manager or Surface Warfare Officer.
- Knowledge of multiple Combat System domains and related technologies.
- Experience with other Saab maritime solutions (e.g., SETS/OTA, OBTS, DLP).
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116) or equivalent.
- Experience with Defence documentation, quality systems, and training development.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV2 clearance.
