PEOPLE ADVISOR
The role
As part of our People & Culture Team, the People and Culture Advisor reports to the People Advisory Lead and is responsible for providing advice and guidance to leaders and employees on all P&C policies and processes.
With a solid understanding of contemporary P&C practices, including industrial and employee relations, and how they align to the people strategy, priorities and objectives, the People Advisory team work in partnership with the broader P&C team to implement aligned and consistent people practices across the business.
Under the leadership and guidance of the People Advisory Lead, the People & Culture Advisor is focused on providing strong legislative compliance, coaching; by advising leaders and employees on the implementation of processes that positively contribute to culture, engagement, business performance and the employee lifecycle, aligned to the people strategy and plans at Saab.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Build effective relationships, coach and influence leaders and other stakeholders, and prioritise to ensure successful management of IR/ER matters, Service Hub tickets and employee lifecycle activities.
- Coordinate and manage employee relations issues by providing timely and consistent coaching, advice and support to both leaders and employees.
- Coach leaders and employees through application of policies and procedures to ensure harmonious and productive workplace relations are maintained, and compliance with Australian legislative requirements is met at all times.
- Effectively interpreting modern awards, Saab policies and procedures to provide sound advice to leaders and employees.
- Proactively coach and support leaders in the implementation of a diverse range of processes including induction, performance and behaviour management, leadership management, succession planning, injury management and management of grievances and disputes.
- Conduct investigations ensuring fair and due processes and legislative compliance are met.
- Support the business with cyclical P&C activities such as performance reviews, salary reviews and calibration sessions.
- Be the first port of call for Income Protection queries, and provide advice and guidance to employees and managers, liaising with Saab’s insurer and payroll as necessary.
- Update and continuously improve a suite of contemporary and legally compliant policies and procedures in conjunction with the Business Partners.
- Coordinate expatriate assignments in partnership with Global Mobility, as per Saab policies and procedures and Australian law.
- Understanding business and workforce needs to make appropriate P&C considerations for advice, recommendations and support.
- Educate and promote an increase in awareness to leaders on the ways in which they can actively improve IR and ER in the workplace.
P&C Team:
- Identify and contribute to process improvement to create business efficiencies and improve user experience for stakeholders.
- Take responsibility for own professional and personal development, keeping up to date with current practice and trends, and engaging in professional development training to continually enhance your own skills and knowledge.
- Comply with and keep abreast of any relevant legislation applicable to the performance of the duties of this position.
- Comply with legislation and Saab policies, processes and instructions, including those relating to non-discrimination, safety and duty of care and the quality management system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This is a part time (0.8 FTE) role and flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home will be considered for this role after discussing with the manager
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- Demonstrated success and experience working in a similar P&C role and experience equally complex, fast-paced environment.
- High-level knowledge of, and ability to interpret applicable legislation, industrial relations instruments, policies and frameworks.
- Commercially and politically astute.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence leaders to take the right approach.
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary and best practice HR approaches.
- At least 3-5 years’ experience working in P&C team desirable, with 1 or 2 years working in an Advisory role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage workload including the ability to prioritise work and meet established timeframes.
- Experience with HR systems such as Workday (or similar) - desirable.
Educational Qualifications and Professional Memberships
- Tertiary qualifications in an HR or a related discipline and/or relevant professional experience in an equivalent role.
- Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI) membership desirable
As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline/NV1/NV2 level or have the ability to gain one.
