Phase In and Management Senior Project Manager

Lead the delivery of Land capability development, collaborating with government and industry stakeholders to shape and deliver strategic outcomes that support sovereign capability and long-term national priorities.

This role is available in Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra or Brisbane and can be performed from any of these locations.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced Senior Project Manager who thrives in complex stakeholder environments, enjoys building high-performing teams, and has a proven ability to deliver projects safely, on schedule and within budget.

Working closely with Defence customers, industry partners and internal functional leaders, you will lead the transition from contract award through mobilisation into steady-state operations, ensuring strong governance, effective risk management and exceptional customer outcomes.

The role

As the Senior Project Manager, you will provide end-to-end leadership across all aspects of program delivery, including project governance, commercial performance, schedule, cost, quality and stakeholder engagement.

Leading a multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate activities across engineering, commercial, finance, quality, supply chain, HR, ICT, security in collaboration with government and industry stakeholders to ensure successful mobilisation and ongoing delivery.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the Phase-In Plan for a nationally significant Land program, delivering strategic capability.

  • Lead all functional and programmatic requirements, including the transition to steady-state management operations while managing risk, schedule and cost.

  • Develop and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, governance frameworks and mobilisation strategies.

  • Manage project scope, cost, schedule, quality, risk and customer satisfaction outcomes.

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and foster a collaborative, high-performing and safety-focused culture.

  • Build trusted relationships with Defence customers, industry participants and internal stakeholders.

  • Chair customer reviews, governance forums, steering committees and executive reporting meetings.

  • Monitor project performance, proactively manage risks and drive successful delivery against contractual commitments.

  • Manage internal and external dependencies to ensure synchronised delivery

About you

You are an accomplished Senior Project Manager with experience delivering large, multidisciplinary Defence or complex engineering programs. You are recognised for your ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and navigate challenging delivery environments while maintaining strong commercial and customer focus.

Experience & Skills:

  • Extensive experience leading complex Defence or systems engineering projects.

  • Strong knowledge of project governance, scheduling, risk management and project controls.

  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM/CSSR) or equivalent project performance reporting.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Science or Business.

  • Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM CPPM) accreditation or equivalent (highly regarded).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Excellent communicator, able to set clear expectations and provide feedback.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
