Principal Technical Support Engineer- Regional Aircraft

Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented Principal Technical Support Engineer for its Operations team, primarily focusing on the Regional Aircraft business.  

The Principal Technical Support Engineer will be an experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of industry practices. Day-to-day activities will include providing technical support to field engineers, technicians, customers, and product support personal who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, or repairing a Saab 340 or Saab 2000 aircraft. Routinely, the role will interface with internal and external customers, lessors, vendors, and the Saab operations leadership team.

The Principal Technical Support Engineer should possess the skills to guide others on a technical team, assist in proposal preparation, influence other business areas without direct authority, and have experience working with customers globally.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Recognized internally as a subject matter expert on the Saab 340, Saab 2000, engines, and components. May direct the activities of others.

  • Provides technical support to field engineers, technicians, customers, and product support personal who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, or repairing a Saab 340 or Saab 2000 aircraft.

  • Management of customer relationships domestically and internationally.

  • Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Requires conceptual thinking to understand advanced issues and implications. Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Accountable for results, which may impact the entire function.

  • Ability to establish, communicate and manage strategic vision, missions, and goals of large program organizations.

  • May be involved in customer installation and training.

  • Provides support to customer/users where the product is highly technical or sophisticated in nature.

  • Understand company products and services to develop customer specific solutions.

  • Reviews proposals for compliance with technical requirements and customer needs, also providing guidance internally to identify major risk.

  • Leads effective engagement in customer interface; ability to effectively present results/content to internal and external customers in technical and program reviews.  

  • Understand the regional aircraft market and competitors.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through mentorship and guidance. 

  • Influence and management of customer expectations.

  • Works with internal or external customers to define solutions.

  • Ability to train less experienced professionals.

  • Good presentation, leadership and team‐building skills. 

Compensation Range: $132,800-$172,700

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or 16 years of equivalent experience.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% in support of program and business development efforts. (some of that travel is International)


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experienced in leading teams

  • Experience working with commercial, and foreign customers

  • Experience working in Oracle, Salesforce, or similar programs


Desired Education:

  • MBA

  • Airframe and Powerplant FAA license

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
