Your role
The Gripen that flies in 2035 is being decided right now.
Not in a hangar, but through strategic planning, capability studies, requirement setting and customer dialogue. As Product Manager for the Gripen Weapon System, you will help shape the long-term direction of the product and define the capabilities needed to meet future operational and customer needs.
You will own part of the Gripen product across its full lifecycle, from early concept to eventual retirement. Your focus will be on understanding where the product needs to go, why, and what is required to get there.
In practice, this means:
- Developing the long-term product strategy and direction, based on operational needs, customer requirements, technology, market trends and Saab's business strategy.
- Defining and maintaining product plans, capability roadmaps and priorities, including what capabilities should be developed and when.
- Leading capability studies and strategic assessments to identify future needs, opportunities and gaps.
- Translating operational and customer needs into requirements and defining the conditions needed for future development.
- Balancing the needs of the Swedish Air Force with those of international customers and considering how these should influence the product direction.
- Working with Marketing & Sales on market opportunities, customer dialogues, campaigns and contract discussions, providing the product perspective.
- Making strategic trade-offs between customer needs, technical possibilities, business opportunities and long-term product development.
- Following the product's development at a strategic level to ensure that investments and development remain aligned with the product direction and intended capabilities.
You will work closely with FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces, international customers, local industry partners and internal stakeholders across Saab.
You will lead mainly through others by setting direction, strategies, priorities and requirements. A key part of the role is creating alignment around where the product is going and what needs to be achieved to get there.
Your profile
We think you have:
- Several years of experience in strategic product planning, product management, systems engineering or a similar role, preferably within defence or aerospace.
- Experience of working with long-term product or capability development and translating operational or customer needs into strategic plans and requirements.
- The ability to move between technical discussions with engineers and strategic or commercial discussions with customers and other senior stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills in both Swedish and English, spoken and written.
- A relevant engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
It is a plus if you have:
- Experience of the Gripen system or another complex weapon system.
- Experience in technical sales, capability development or operational use of complex systems.
- Previous experience working with FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces or international defence customers.
You don't need to tick every box. If the role matches your experience and sounds like the kind of challenge you are looking for, we would like to hear from you.
This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
