The role
As part of our Systems Delivery Group, the Product Owner (PO) is a member of an agile team who is responsible for maximising the value of a product. They are the primary customer advocate for the team and are responsible for connecting the business and development teams.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Support the software team(s) the prioritization of module and component development activities, bug fixes and documentation updates by working with the development team to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Decide what functionality is in-scope, and what can be left out-of-scope by providing insight into system-wide impacts.
- Work with systems engineering and software development teams to ensure smooth execution of product development.
- Communicate systems requirements and system design (including for example, HMI and functional chains) clearly and ensure all teams are aligned on deliverables.
- Providing system level technical support to Team Leads in the development of software plans.
- Review software documents including requirements, design, test plans and test results - including tracing to Sub-System Specification and Sub-System Design Document, to ensure the needs of the system are satisfied.
- Support team planning (including quarterly and sprint), reviews, and retrospectives, assisting them with refining system features, technical dependences and ensuring that goals are met efficiently.
- Where applicable, align planning and evolution with global product design.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your education, skills and experience will include:
- Education: Tertiary qualifications (bachelor’s degree) in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
- Experience: Three or more years of experience in the fields of Systems Engineering in Software intensive systems. Across the full engineering lifecycle in Requirements Management, System Architecture, Systems Integration, and/or Verification and Validation.
- Knowledge:
- Good understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
- Familiarity with complex systems (e.g., military systems) or related defence technologies is desirable.
- Familiarity of System Engineering in an ASDEFCON context is desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g., DOORS, Model Based Systems Engineering tools). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Ability to clearly convey technical information in both written and verbal forms.
- Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably to NV1 level.
