SAAB Australia is seeking a skilled and driven Project Manager with a proven track record in delivering hardware-related projects. This is an opportunity to lead innovative projects that make a tangible impact.

Based in Mawson Lakes, South Australia and reporting to the Hardware Product manager, you’ll be responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of assigned hardware projects, ensuring outcomes are on time, within budget, and of high quality.

In this pivotal role, you’ll play a key role in scope definition, resource planning, cost tracking, stakeholder engagement, and continual process improvement.

As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of hardware-related projects across design, development, and low-volume, high-value manufacturing.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and risks.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration and alignment.
  • Prepare and present status updates at key reviews, including Steering Committees and Customer Progress Meetings.
  • Track and maintain hardware resource data, master schedules, and identify resource/skills gaps.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure timely availability of parts, tools, and assemblies for production.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project management practices and delivery outcomes.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Extensive experience in Project Management with demonstrable delivery of hardware-related projects.
  • Recognised Project Management qualification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of best practice project management in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and Microsoft Project tools.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering practices and Software/Hardware co-development cycles.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in resource-constrained environments.
  • Experience in short, medium, and long-term resource and skills planning.

Qualification:

  • Tertiary qualification in project management or equivalent experience.
  • Membership of AIPM or PMI (desirable but not essential).

  • Proactive, adaptable, and focused on continuous learning and development.
  • Strong customer orientation and a solution-driven mindset.


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
