Saab Australia is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Naval Combat Systems division on a two-year fixed term contract.
In this key role, you will lead the design, development, documentation, testing, and integration of advanced electrical/electronic hardware solutions that meet both internal and external customer requirements.
You will act as a technical leader within the Hardware team, mentoring and coaching others while delivering innovative solutions that support mission-critical Defence capability.
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.

The opportunity
As the Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be accountable for:
Key responsibilities:
- Developing hardware architectures and product roadmaps for existing, new, or evolving systems.
- Designing and documenting electrical/electronic solutions aligned to customer and program requirements.
- Acting as the subject matter expert for electrical/electronic hardware products.
- Leading the selection, integration, and testing of procured specialist hardware items and equipment.
- Reviewing and approving hardware designs and engineering artefacts for internal and external reviews.
- Developing hardware product structures in ERP/PLM environments, ensuring quality data for procurement and production.
- Leading resolution of technical issues, risks, and performance challenges.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders, subcontractors, and Defence customers.
- Providing technical mentoring and coaching to hardware engineers within the team.
- Ensuring compliance with Saab’s engineering processes, quality management systems, and safety standards
About you
Experience & Skills:
- Demonstrated experience developing new hardware solutions from concept to delivery.
- Strong experience with hardware design methodologies, development, testing, and implementation.
- Proven ability to write and review technical documentation that supports engineering requirements and Defence deliverables.
- Experience using ERP/PLM systems to manage hardware structures and engineering data.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong ability to mentor and support junior engineers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to deliver innovative technical solutions.
- Broad knowledge of technology and trends in the hardware engineering discipline
Desirable
- Extensive cross-discipline hardware engineering experience.
- Knowledge of configuration management principles and tools.
Qualification and Memberships:
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) registration.
- Eligibility for RPEQ registration (Electrical Engineer).

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
