SENIOR PROJECT CONTROLLER

The role

As part of our Naval Combat Systems group, the Senior Project Controller role will be pivotal in providing project planning, controls and support. As a Senior Project Controller, you will provide advice, guidance, cost and schedule baseline maintenance including reporting of project cost and schedule status. Assist in mentoring of other Project Planner and Controllers, Project Managers, CAMs and Task Managers in the area of project planning, monitoring & control

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Facilitate and assist Project Managers and CAMs with the development of Project Budgets and in the selection of appropriate Earned Value Techniques for input into the Cost and Schedule tools.
  • Ensure that cost / schedule planning activities undertaken are in co-ordination with Control Account Managers (CAM) and the Project Managers.
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of WBS Dictionaries, ensuring that the entire contract scope of work is included in CWBS and Project Schedules.
  • Ensure that planning, scheduling, budgeting, accounting, analysis and reporting activities are fully integrated.
  • Establish and maintain Project Baselines, Project Authorisation & other project budget documentation
  • Ensure appropriate integration of project schedules and cost management tools, and timely implementation of baseline and contract changes
  • Provide assistance for the interpretation and analysis of performance data and performance indices.
  • Provide continuous mentoring/assistance to the CAMs in performance management, in particular Month End process, stat using, data analysis, variance analysis reporting and forecasting
  • Assist in define the planning and monitoring & controlling process, investigate and implement process improvement and where possible process automation.
  • Assist in the development of Program Master Schedules and Cobra Master Programs
  • Assist in the development and maturation of Saab Maritime Group EV artefacts
  • Provide Planning/Scheduling support to other lines of business within Saab as required
  • Ensure that the EVM System is compliant to internal/external standards, process, procedures and governance (AS-4817)

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role after discussion with the manager.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a project planner and controller for projects of medium to high complexity
  • Experience working in an EV Defence project environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and an effective understanding of project performance measurement using Earned Value to AS-4817 and the Defence Supplement
  • Knowledge and understanding of Project Management processes e.g., PMBOK
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using project management software Microsoft Project and Open Plan Professional™
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using cost management software preferably COBRA™
  • Proven analytical problem-solving skills relating to costs and scheduling performance and reporting


Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline/NV1/NV2 level.
