Senior Staff Electrical Engineer

Job Description:

Saab Inc., Autonomous and Undersea Systems division is seeking innovative and experienced Senior Staff Electrical Engineers to guide others on technical teams in capturing, understanding, and implementing product electrical requirements for autonomous Unmanned Surface/Underwater Vehicles (aUSVs/aUUVs, AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This position will sit in our Quincy, MA facility.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Ability to apply advanced design and analysis 

    • Understanding the product development life cycle 

    • Ability to generate complete design documentation and perform design reviews 

    • Ability to apply industry accepted design methods and practices, including design choices/tradeoffs, test data and requirement/specification changes 

    • Ability to develop a design utilizing the appropriate CAD tools 

    • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively (written and verbal) 

    • Using problem solving skills and analytical thinking 

    • Understanding applicable company products and technologies 

    • Ability to estimate efforts for own tasks 

    • Ability to apply Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test 

    • Ability to create methods and procedures for problem solving and test 

    • Planning and organizational skills for team tasks/projects 

    • Understanding applicable processes and procedures and is involved in the process improvement efforts 

    • Ability to derive and/or create work instructions 

    • Ability to derive design requirements and provide input to system requirements 

    • Ability to present design and/or test content and results to customers (internal or external) 

    • Ability to estimate level of effort and associated costs used in Basis of Estimate (BoE) and project scheduling 

    • Ability to provide mentoring and technical guidance/coaching to others 

    Skills and Experience:

    Position Requirements:

    • BA/BS degree in an engineering discipline or related discipline 
    • 15+ years' experience

    OR

    • MA/MS degree in an engineering discipline or related discipline 

    • 13+ years' experience 

    OR

    • PhD degree in an engineering discipline or related discipline 

    • 11+ years' experience 

    Desired:

    • Prior experience with DoD or with U.S. government customers is highly desirable.

    • Experience developing hardware for Naval and Marine applications.

    • Familiarity with Military Standards, ruggedized equipment design, and environmental test requirements.

    • Knowledge of power conversion, efficiency. and budgeting

    • Extensive familiarity with the design and development of autonomous surface and underwater systems.

    • Experience modeling and designing electro-mechanical systems for undersea applications

    • Experience with Altium, MATLAB (analysis and MBSE), and DOORS

    Citizenship Requirements:

    Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
