Saab Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer with strong Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) expertise to lead the design, development and integration of complex defence systems.
Working across the full systems engineering lifecycle, you’ll drive requirements management, system architecture, integration, verification and validation while mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams.).

The Opportunity
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the full systems engineering lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements engineering, system architecture, and integration. Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will ensure technical solutions are robust, compliant, and aligned with customer and operational requirements.
You will work across the full systems engineering lifecycle, supporting requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, verification and validation activities while engaging with customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, developing system models, architectures and ensuring end-to-end requirements traceability.
- Lead requirements engineering, system design, integration, verification and validation activities, ensuring technical solutions meet customer, operational and quality requirements.
- Provide technical leadership across engineering teams, support major design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR), manage technical risks and contribute to successful project delivery.
- Ensure engineering processes, methods, tools and environments support project delivery objectives.
- Contribute to sustainment outcomes through effective planning, coordination and technical problem-solving
About You
You are a motivated and collaborative systems engineer with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You thrive in complex engineering environments and are comfortable navigating technical, stakeholder and governance challenges associated with safety-critical defence systems.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in Systems Engineering within complex, software-intensive or defence environments.
- Strong practical experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML.
- Experience using Cameo Systems Modeler, DOORS, Cradle, or similar engineering toolsets.
- Proven expertise across requirements engineering, system architecture, integration, verification and validation.
- Experience working within ASDEFCON or Defence acquisition environments (highly desirable).
- Knowledge of complex military systems, software-intensive systems and systems integration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical leadership capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications such as INCOSE ASEP/CSEP/ESEP and/or Engineers Australia CPEng are highly regarded.
Security Requirements
Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (NV1) and have the ability to access ITAR-controlled information.
