The role
As part of our Land & Integrated Systems - Submarines group, the Senior Systems Engineer will contribute to the development, planning and execution of the System Engineering program for allocated projects relating to the Collins Class Submarines Integrated Ship Control Management and Monitoring System (ISCMMS). This includes requirements analysis and allocation, system architecture design, conduct of internal and customer system reviews and management of test activities in accordance with project governance plans and the Saab GMS. This program involves the upgrade of an in-service system, so baseline change management, including ECPs, CCPs and change control boards, will be a large part of this role.
Success in this role requires a highly motivated individual who demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and has experience or a keen interest in complex software systems, mixed signal electronics and computer networking, preferably within the Submarine platform systems domain
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Develop a working understanding of all aspects of the system architecture and advise on the impact of engineering change proposals.
- Develop a positive, collaborative working relationship with the customer organisation, and support good decision making for program success.
- Coordinate and chair Change Control Boards, Material Release Boards and other engineering governance processes to ensure the integrity of the system baselines.
- Experienced in system engineering process, including requirements management, high level requirements derivation, system design, implementation, integration, test and validation.
- Brief engineering authorities on aspects of design changes and other technical issues.
- Provide advisory services to the team on best practice systems engineering from process set up and delivery through verification and validation to delivery utilising the available tools and resources.
- Engage with company provided services to facilitate sustainment outcomes for services not within the Submarines Program.
- Plan, organise, coordinate, direct and control the activities assigned for the management and production of deliverables and services in their area of responsibility.
- Develop and manage the work packages relating to sustainment allocated in accordance with the engineering management plan
- Articulate and solve complex technical issues and managing them within a fast-paced business environment with deadlines
- Facilitate technical discussions with customers, stakeholders and subcontractors as required on related project matters (e.g. design reviews).
- Develop and maintain the aspects of the project level engineering plans applicable to the functional area in accordance with engineering management plan.
- In collaboration with the Engineering Manager, ensure maintenance of the engineering methods, tools and environments to meet the requirements of this engineering management plan.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office will be considered for this role.
About you
Your education, skills and experience will include:
- Education: Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's or Master’s degree) in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
- Certifications: Relevant professional certifications in systems engineering or related fields such as; Engineers Australia CPEng, INCOSE ASEP, CSEP or ESEP (desirable).
- Working knowledge of engineering governance processes as they apply to safety critical military systems.
- Working knowledge of System Safety Programs.
- Expert knowledge of the Cradle application.
- Expert knowledge of the Document Management and Engineering and Parts management modules of IFS.
- Working knowledge of Jira, including for task tracking and process workflows.
