Senior Systems Safety Engineer – Defence Industry

The role

As part of our Engineering and Sustainment Services group, the Senior Safety Engineer will mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives. Additionally, they will be develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and reports, conduct system testing and validation, and drive continuous improvement initiatives for systems within the engineering department.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to the Combat Systems safety program by engaging Combat Systems Delivery teams in product safety and environmental safety assessment activities.

  • Coordinate with the delivery teams to gather the OQE to mature the safety products.

  • Assist with the development of safety and environmental arguments for combat systems, including above water warfare, underwater warfare, information systems (including software) sometimes from first principles.

  • Participate in the derivation, management and sell-off of safety requirements on combat systems including the use of DOORS.

  • Contribute to the generation and maintenance of Tier 1 System Design Safety Assessments.

  • In addition to those pertaining to the roles’ major tasks and activities.
     

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering, with significant experience in complex systems, military systems, and software intensive systems.

  • Proficient understanding of System Engineering in an ASDEFCON context.

  • Relevant professional certifications in systems engineering or related fields such as; Engineers Australia CPEng, INCOSE ASEP, CSEP or ESEP (desirable).

  • Ability to use advanced systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g. DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler, Cradle, etc.). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with systems integration, testing, and validation.
     

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
